Opinion Writing Unit Electronic Learning Agenda (started 10/28/19)
Word Study Routine: This will run on two week cycles. All documents can be found on Google Classroom. There is also a quizlet posted in Google Classroom.
Week 1: Introduce words Tuesday, Personal dictionary due Friday
Week 2: Weekly Practice due Tuesday, Matching (classwork) Wednesdays, test Friday.

● We will begin our Literature based Opinion Writing.
● We will be doing some journaling to get them thinking about books they have read.
● Brainstorming: Students will choose a story they’ve read recently. They will choose something to write an opinion about, using details to support their opinion.
Week of 11/12/19
We will begin a mini unit with imagery using the book In November. Students will write their own poem using imagery.
This week (Wednesday) we will start a new word study routine. This routine will run two weeks. Students need to have their personal dictionary completed by class Friday, November 15th.
Week of 11/4/19
We are finishing up with the conclusion mini-lesson for this unit.
Students will have Thursday & Friday in class to finish the essay.The Opinion Essay published copy is due Friday, Nov 8. This counts as a test grade.
Week of 10/28/19
The planning outline is due Monday (Cashwell, Cunningham, Rathbun)/Tuesday (Jackson). We will work on the introduction body paragraphs, and conclusion this week. The published writing will be due Friday, November 8th.
Week of 10/21/19
The first half of the week will be spent on a constructed response about the Harlem Renaissance. We will then focus on quoting a source and organizing ideas and reasons.
Week of 10/7/19
Students will be writing their conclusions Monday (Cashwell, Cunningham, Rathbun)/Tuesday (Jackson). Students will have the rest of the week to finish their explanatory writing. I will be grading the body paragraph outline (due Wednesday).
Week of 9/30/19
We will be finishing up the Introduction paragraph (explanatory writing) with thesis. The next step is the body paragraphs focusing on formatting and transitions.
Week of 9/23/19
Students will be working on the lead and background information for their explanatory essay.
Week of 9/16/19
Students will be publishing in class. Monday: Cashwell, Cunningham, Rathbun
Tuesday: Jackson
If students do not finish in class, they will need to complete this as homework and have it turned in through Google Classroom Thursday by 3:00.
We will begin our explanatory writing unit this week. We will start with the elements of explanatory writing and brainstorming topics to go along with out prompt.
Week of 8/26/19
This week we will work on our middle and conclusion of our Personal Narrative. The week will end with peer revisions. As part of our study of a narrative, we will learn about dialogue and will have a dialogue quiz 9/3. All of the work this week will be in the writing folder since our class Chromebooks are being used for MAP testing.

We are continuing our Personal Narrative with brainstorming, hooks and the beginning. All of our work is in Google Classroom (so
me assignments will be done on paper during MAP testing)
The Best Part of Me (Google Classroom) is due Wednesday, August 21st.
